Southern N.H. Takes 2 From Bentley, 8-0 & 7-1; Mankins Homers for 4th Time

MANCHESTER, N.H. –Southern New Hampshire University homered twice in each game and SNHU senior Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) pitched a one-hitter in the opener as the Penmen swept Bentley University Sunday evening, 8-0 and 7-1, in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at the SNHU Softball Field.

The Penmen took three of four during the weekend series to improve to 11-9 overall and conference. Bentley slipped to 8-14, both overall and NE10.

Bentley's only run of the twinbill came in the second inning of the opener. Sophomore first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) cleared the left field fence while leading off the bottom of the second (Bentley was the designated home team). It was the fourth of the season for the NE10 RBI leader.

Strasser, in the five-inning opener, walked one and struck out two. She came back to pitch the final four innings of game two, earning her second win of the night. She did not allow a hit and fanned one during that stint.

Bentley's only hit in game one came from senior third baseman Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech HS), a single to left in the third inning.

Strasser had a 2-0 lead before stepping to the circle in the bottom of the first. With one aboard, freshman first baseman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) homered for the Penmen.

Senior second baseman Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) homered in the fourth to make it a 3-0 game and she also had an RBI single in the fifth.

In game two, SNHU also scored in the first, this time on an RBI single to left by senior catcher Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.).

Freshman shortstop Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) made it a 3-0 game with a two-run homer in the second, and Sauvageau hit her second of the night in the fifth, making it 5-1.

Mankins had two of the Falcons' six hits in the contest. She's only the fourth Bentley player to have as many as four home runs in a season.

Bentley will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Assumption University.
