Bentley Splits for Southern N.H.; Korotsky Reaches 150 in Career Hits

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Melissa Landry (Chatham, N.J./Chatham HS), pitching on Senior Day, gave her team 2.1 innings of quality relief and freshman Payton Doiron (Beacon Falls, Conn./St. Joseph HS) came on for the save as Bentley University took game one from Southern New Hampshire University, 5-3, in Northeast-10 Conference softball Saturday afternoon at the Bentley softball field.

In game two, after Bentley scored twice in the sixth to take the lead, Southern New Hampshire scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh and went on to gain the split, 7-6.

Bentley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opener with two runs in the second and one more in the third. Freshman designated player Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels) had a two-run single in the second and senior right fielder Lea Thompson (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) had an RBI triple to left center in the third, scoring junior catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore,/Tualatin HS). Hillier had an outstanding day, with four hits and four runs scored. She's now 13 of 22 in her last six games.

The Falcons made it a 5-1 game with two more runs in the fifth inning, a frame that featured the 150th career hit for graduate left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgwater-Raynham HS). She became only the second player in program history to reach that milestone by beating out a swinging bunt. Both Korotsky and Hillier scored on a two-run single to center by sophomore center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS).

Landry came in from the bullpen in the fourth and gave the Falcons 2.1 innings of work. She scattered three hits and yielded one run before giving way to Doiron. She allowed one run while earning the four-out save.

Petow and Amato, with two apiece, accounted for half of Bentley's eight hits. The Penmen also had eight, including three by freshman third baseman Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H).

Down 5-0 in the first inning of game two, Bentley battled back to within one with two runs in the first and two more in the third.

In the bottom of the sixth, both senior shortstop Noelani Rivera (Clifton, N.J./Hawthorne Christian Acad.) and senior third baseman Lindsey Allen (Worcester/Worcester Tech HS) scored when a grounder went through the second baseman's leg, making it 6-5 Falcons.

However, SNHU came back in the top of the seventh to score the tying and what proved to be the winning run. Freshman first baseman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) had a sacrifice fly and after reaching on an error, Dimauro scored on a wild pitch for the decisive run.

Hillier was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Thompson had two hits and two RBI. Freshman second baseman Samantha Grizzaffi (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield HS) also had two hits for the Falcons.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow, but due to the forecast, the site was moved to SNHU and the time for game one to 5 pm.
