Bentley Splits with Assumption Behind Pereira Shutout & 6 Hits by Hillier

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior right hander Elise Pereira (Raynham/King Philip Reg. HS) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and classmate Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) had three hits and two RBI as Bentley University blanked Assumption University, 4-0, in the first half of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Bentley.

Assumption (9-7, 9-7 NE10) came back to take game two, 8-5, despite another three-hit, two-RBI performance for Hillier. During the twinbill, the Falcon catcher was 6-for-7 with three triples, four RBI and two runs scored.

Pereira, who recorded her second shutout of the season and fifth career, saw her no-no hopes disappear on a one-out double by senior right fielder Abigail Duggan (West Roxbury). Assumption also picked up a hit in the seventh inning.

Her teammates gave Pereira more run support than she would need by scoring three times in the first inning. Graduate left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) reached on a one-out single and scored on Hillier's first triple of the afternoon. Later in the inning, Hillier scored on an error and sophomore first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS) made it 3-0 on a fielder's choice.

The only other run of the game was scored in the second with Hillier delivering a two-out single to left to drive in freshman designated player Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels), who had reached on a fielder's choice.

Bentley finished with six hits, three by Hillier and two from Korotsky.

In game two, Bentley was in front 3-1 after four before Assumption turned the game around with seven runs. That inning featured a two-run double to left by senior shortstop Alyssa Beaton (Smithfield, R.I.) and two hits from sophomore center fielder Jordan Dwyer (Coventry, R.I..

In the first inning, senior third baseman Lindsey Allen (Worcester/Worcester Tech) led off with a single and scored on a ground out by Mankins.

After Assumption tied the game in the top of the fourth, Bentley reclaimed the advantage with two in the bottom of the inning. Following a walk and a Korotsky single to set the tablee, Hillier tripled again, this time to left.

In the fifth, Bentley senior right fielder Lea Thompson (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) hit her second home run of the season, and fifth career, making it 8-4 at the time.

Hillier tripled again in the seventh and scored Bentley's fifth run on a Mankins' ground out.

In addition to the three hits from Hillier, the Falcons' 11 included two apiece from Korotsky and Thompson.

Bentley (7-9, 7-9 NE10) is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Franklin Pierce University on Thursday.
