WALTHAM, Mass. – Shutouts by freshmen Lauren Calabrese (Cave Creek, Ariz./Boulder Creek HS) and Ashley Keegan (Pittsfield/Taconic HS), sandwiched around a five-hitter from sophomore Kayleigh Fitzpatrick (East Hampstead, N.H./Timberlane Reg. HS), enabled Bentley University to win all three games from St. Michael's College Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball.

The scores were 1-0, 4-1 and 8-0 with the latter halted in the fifth due to the run rule. The first game was the completion of Friday's contest that was suspended in the third as the result of rain.

Calabrese turned in a four-hitter and struck out eight, pushing her season total to 80, while surviving six walks. Fitzpatrick yielded a single run in the fourth inning and struck out three. Keegan gave up only three hits in her five innings and struck out one. It was the first shutout of the season for all three, and each benefited from a double play.

Bentley totaled 26 hits in the three wins with the offensive standouts including sophomore left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgewater-Raynham Reg. HS) with five hits, sophomore center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) with a grand slam and three hits, and sophomore second baseman Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) with four hits.

The only run in the game started on Friday was scored in the second inning. Senior shortstop Catie Noons (North Dighton/Dighton-Rehoboth Reg. HS) led off with a walk, sophomore right fielder Kaileigh Serafini (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady HS) reached on an infield single and sophomore Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West HS) singled up the middle to load the bases.

Following an infield fly for the second out, an infield single to third by Korotsky scored Noons with what proved to be the game's only run.

Bentley grabbed a 3-0 second-inning lead in the middle game and went on to the 4-1 win. Consecutive singles by freshman right fielder Lea Thompson (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS), freshman designated player Noa Rivera (Clifton, N.J./Hawthorne Christian Acad.) and Romeo loaded the bases, and Thompson scored the game's first run on a passed ball.

Rivera and Romeo both raced home on a grounder to short by sophomore catcher Jillian Parinello (Jackson, N.J./Jackson HS), making it 3-0.

Bentley's fourth run was scored in the fifth with Korotsky hitting a double to right center and scoring on a sac fly by Thompson.

The finale saw both Slavin and Noons score in the second before the Falcons erupted for five in the third. The big blow there was a grand slam by Romeo, her fourth home run of the season. That's the most by a Falcon since Deb Patridge in 1994.

In the fifth, Romeo singled to left and scored the game-ending run on a single to right by freshman catcher Lindsey Allen (Worcester/Worcester Technical HS).

Korotsky, who began the series one point behind Slavin, would up as the team's leading hitter at .328 while Slavin second at .323.

Bentley finished the season with records of 15-27 overall, 12-17 Northeast-10 and 10-11 in the division. St. Michael's, which came in having won four of five, wrapped the season at 10-25 overall, 7-18 NE10 and 6-15 division.
