Korotsky 2-Run Single Lifts Bentley to 5-3 Win over Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. – Sophomore left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run single in the sixth, propelling Bentley University to a 5-3 win over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball Tuesday afternoon on Father Gartland Field.

Looking at a 3-2 deficit, singles by sophomore center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) and senior designated player Stephanie McQuaid (Windham, N.H./Central Catholic HS) opened the sixth for the Falcons and a walk to freshman catcher Lindsey Allen (Worcester/Worcester Technical HS) loaded the bases with no outs.

A throwing error on a fielder's choice scored McQuaid with the tying run and left the Falcons with two in scoring position with one out. Korotsky followed with a single to left center, bringing in both Ballantyne and Allen put Bentley back in front.

Bentley took a 2-0 lead in the fourth, Romeo following a single by freshman third baseman Noa Rivera (Clifton, N.J./Hawthorne Christian Academy) with a home run to center, her third of the season.

A two-run homer by Stonehill sophomore catcher Julia Hartman (Salisbury) erased the Falcon lead in the bottom of the fifth. Later in the inning, pinch-runner Elizabeth Cronin (Holliston) gave the Skyhawks a 3-2 lead when she scored on a wild pitch.

Bentley doubled the home team in the hit column, 10-5, with two apiece by Rivera, Romeo and McQuaid.

Freshman Lauren Calabrese (Cave Creek, Ariz./Boulder Creek HS) earned the victory, her fourth of the season, after allowing three hits and three runs during five innings of work. Sophomore Kayliegh Fitzpatrick (East Hampstead, N.H./Timberlane Reg. HS) picked up her third save with two innings of two-hit scoreless relief.

Bentley improved to 12-27 overall, including 9-17 conference and 7-11 Northeast. Stonehill's 8-27 overall mark includes 7-18 NE10 and 5-12 division.

Bentley will close out the season with a three-game home series against St. Michael's Friday and Saturday.
