Bentley’s Florida Trip Ends with Losses to Holy Family & Le Moyne

MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Bentley University softball team concluded the Florida portion of its schedule with a 4-7 record after dropping a pair of games on Friday, 10-7 to Holy Family University and 7-0 to Le Moyne College.

The Holy Family game saw the Tigers erupt for four runs in the top of the sixth to overtake the Falcons, who were up 7-6 at the time. Freshman center fielder Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, N.Y.), junior shortstop Taylor Favlinger (Deptford, N.J.) and senior left fielder Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y.) had RBI singles in the inning, and a fourth scored on a bases loaded walk.

Bentley had tied the game up twice, at 4-4 in the third and 6-6 in the fifth, before claiming a lead in the sixth. Freshman center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) walked to lead off the inning and eventually scored on an error.

Bentley's eight-hit attack included a 2-for-4, three-RBI game from senior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS), who stretched her hitting streak to seven. It ended in the Le Moyne game but she still finished the 11-game trip with a lofty .471 average.

Senior right fielder Chelsea Vena (Matawan, N.J./St. James Vianney HS) and freshman second baseman Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) also had two hits for the Falcons with Vena scoring a pair.

Scotto and right fielder Alina Ponce De Leon each had three RBI for the Tigers (4-6) with Scotto also finishing 3-for-4.

Junior righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y.) pitched a one-hitter for Le Moyne (13-5) in the Falcons' final Sunshine State game of 2017. She walked four and struck out one while boosting her record to 9-3.

Bentley's only hit was an infield single by junior second baseman Jordan Ballantyne (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington HS) with two outs in the seventh.

The Falcons are scheduled to open their northern schedule Mar. 22 at home against Assumption College.
