Walk-off Triple by McQuaid in 9th Gives Bentley Sweep of St. Michael’s, 4-2 and 6-5

WALTHAM, Mass. – A walk-off triple by sophomore right fielder Stephanie McQuaid (Windham, N.H./Austin Prep) in the ninth inning drove in classmate Catie Noons (North Dighton/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) to give Bentley University a 6-5 win game two win and a sweep of its doubleheader with St. Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference softball Saturday afternoon at the Bentley field.

Bentley, 4-1 since returning from Florida, took game one of the twinbill by the count of 4-2. The winning pitcher in both contests was senior lefty Kelly Ferris (Seymour, Conn./Seymour HS), who pitched 2.1 innings of relief in the nightcap after a complete game effort in the first.

Ferris, just the third pitcher in program history with over 200 career strikeouts, scattered eight hits and struck out three in the opening game. She fanned two in the nightcap and retired seven of the eight batters she faced, including one to strand the potential go-ahead runner on third in the seventh.

In game one, Bentley gave her all the offensive support she would need in the second when the Falcons scored three times. McQuaid had a two-run double and she scored the game's third run on an error.

After the Purple Knights (1-11, 0-2 NE-10 Northeast) picked up a single run in the fifth, Bentley countered in the sixth on the third career home run by junior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS).

McQuaid and senior shortstop Alex Borrelli (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic HS) each had two hits for Bentley.

Bentley build a 5-1 lead in game two with two runs in the second and three in the fourth. Four of the five were unearned as the Purple Knights committed a total of five errors in the contest.

St. Michael's battled back with four runs in the seventh, the last three scoring on a bases-loaded triple by senior left fielder Danielle DelGreco (Lexington) to send the Falcons into extra innings for the fifth time in 15 games.

Bentley will continue an eight-game homestand Wednesday with a 3:00 doubleheader against Stonehill College.
