RINDGE, N.H. – With seven different players scoring runs, Franklin Pierce University used a 14-hit attack to top visiting Bentley University, 10-3, in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball Friday afternoon at the Bisaccia Complex.

The Ravens jumped on top with four runs in the third inning and after Bentley scored three in the sixth to get within two at 5-3, broke the contest open with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Three of the four runs that Franklin Pierce scored in the third were unearned due to a Falcon throwing error with two outs. Freshman center fielder Cassidy Sorenson (Billerica, Mass.) had an RBI double to center, and after the error, junior third baseman Erin Wood (Dover, N.Y.) had a two-run double to right center.

In the sixth, Bentley (5-14, 2-8 NE-10 Northeast) took advantage of two Raven errors to score its only three runs of the afternoon. After senior center fielder Shannon Connor (West Haven, Conn./West Haven HS) scored on an error, junior first baseman Morgan Mazone (Selkirk, N.Y./Bethlehem HS) hit a two-run double to left center. The hit was her fifth in her last eight at bats over a three-game span.

Six of Franklin Pierce's hits came in the sixth, an inning that saw the first five batters reach and score.

Sophomore right fielder Chelsea Vena (Matawan, N.J./Saint John Vianney HS) and freshman second baseman Catie Noons (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth HS) each had two hits for Bentley with Noons boosting her team-leading average to .377.

Winning pitcher Tricia Hansen (Mansfield, Mass.) helped herself at the plate as well, with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI in four at bats. Sorenson and Wood each added two hits and two RBI for the Ravens (5-12, 5-8 NE-10 Northeast).

Bentley will look to bounce back on Saturday when the three-game series with the Ravens concludes with a noon doubleheader on the same field.
