Tamuk & Taitz Help Bentley Gain Split with Saint Rose

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore right fielder Chelsea Tamuk (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermeulen HS) scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh and ended the game with an RBI single in the first extra inning as Bentley University rallied for a 2-1 eight-inning game two win and a split of its Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader with The College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon on the Bentley field. The Golden Knights had prevailed in the opener by the count of 5-1.

Bentley went into the bottom of the seventh on the short end of a 1-0 score after having been blanked by Saint Rose's Sarah Arbogast (Newark, N.Y.) through six innings. Tamuk drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a single by freshman shortstop Shannon Connor (West Haven, Conn./West Haven HS) and scored the equalizer on a two-out single by junior second baseman Laura McDonough (Braintree/ Braintree HS).

Sophomore third baseman Kelly Sanborn (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) led off the bottom of the eighth with a double and moved to third on a passed ball. Following a walk, a strikeout and a pop out, Tamuk ended the afternoon with her second hit of the game driving in Sanborn and giving the Falcons their second walk-off win in as many days.

Arbogast and Bentley junior Carly Taitz (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) were locked in a scoreless tie until Saint Rose scored in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by junior first baseman Rachel Reed (Middletown, N.Y.). Taitz finished with a five-hitter and retired seven of the final eight batters she faced.

In addition to Tamuk, Connor also had two hits for Bentley (6-20, 4-14 NE-10).
