Burmester & Tolan Lead Bentley at NCAA East Regional

BETHPAGE, N.Y. – Sophomore Caitlin Burmester (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin HS) and senior Brice Tolan (Abington, Mass./Abington HS) were the top finishers for the Bentley University men's and women's cross country teams Saturday during the NCAA Division II East Regional at Bethpage Polo at the Park.

In the women's race. Burmester was 30th among 143 runners with a time of 23:33.7. She closed the 6,000 meters strong after standing in 47th following the first 800, 45 after 2200 yards and 33rd followed 4800.

146 runners participated in the men's race and Tolan was the 35th runner to finish with a 10,000 meter time of 33:36.3. At leach of the splits, he was between 39th and 46th.

For the women's team, the next two finishers for Bentley were sophomore Brookie Neri (Westbrook, Conn./Westbrook HS) and junior Natalia Moulding (Wareham, Mass./Wareham HS). Neri was 94th in 26:00.20 and Moulding was right behind her in 95th (26:03.20).

After Tolan, four Falcons made it to the line within 20.5 seconds and 10 places of each other. Junior Cole Duval (Tolland, Mass./Mount Everett HS) led the group with his 34:56.6 good for 79th. Junior Matt Chicko (North Andover, Mass./North Andover HS) was 84th in 35:12.4, senior Nick Ondr (Ozark, Mo./Glendale HS) was 86th in 35:13.7 and grad student Sirish Modhagala (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington HS) was 88th in 3:49.40.

Both Bentley teams finished 15th in a meet that included 19 women's teams and 21 men's.

The Southern Connecticut Stare men and the Southern New Hampshire were the team champions. Franklin Pierce's Wondu Summa (31:27.7) captured the men's race by 13.4 seconds and the women's champion, with a winning margin of SNHU's Ashley Corcoran (21:55.4).
