Bentley Cross Country Set for Sunday’s NCAA East Regional; Trip to Nationals on the Line

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University men's and women's cross country teams will be in Hopkinton, N.H. Sunday for the 2015 NCAA Division II East Regional Championships at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds. The 6,000-meter women's race is set for 11 am and the 10,000-meter men's race will follow at 12:15 pm.

The top three teams in both races will automatically earn a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships, which will be held in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 21. Also advancing will be the top three individuals who are not part of a qualifying team, as well as any others who finish in the top five.

Coach Kevin Curtin's women's team, which was second in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Oct. 20, will be looking to qualify for the nationals for the second time in three years while the men will be seeking their first trip since 2012.

Key runners for the Falcons are senior All-America Tara Dooley (Lee/Lee HS), classmate Tom Dean (Portland, Maine/Deering HS), juniors Julia Morena (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) and Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS), and sophomore Ryan Cadorette (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy).

Dooley, who finished tenth in the Northeast-10's two weeks ago in her season debut, will be running in her fourth East Regional. She ran to the regional championship in 2013 after placing second in 2011 and 2012.

Morena, Bentley's number one runner in each of her four races this fall, placed fourth in the NE-10's to earn first-team All-Conference accolades.

Haas was the top finisher for the Bentley men last year, earning All-Region honors with a 15th-place finish. Like Dooley, he made his season debut two weeks ago and finished 26th in the conference championships.

Cadorette and Dean were Bentley's top two finishers at the NE-10's, placing 11th and 18th overall.

Most of the Bentley runners saw the Hopkinton Fairgrounds last month when they participated in the Bruce Kirsch Cup.

In the latest USTFCCCA East Region rankings, both Bentley teams were listed sixth. The top three on the men's side were American International, Stonehill and Franklin Pierce while the women's top three were Stonehill, Roberts Wesleyan and Daemen.
