Lawes Impresses in Hurdles during George Davis Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. -- Sophomore Alex Lawes (Brick, N.J./Brick HS) had the highest individual finish for the Bentley University men's outdoor track and field team during the George Davis Invitational at UMass-Lowell Saturday.

Lawes ran the 400 meter hurdles in 55.84 seconds to finish third among 11 competitors in the event. That was the sixth best time by a Northeast-10 Conference performer this season and he trailed only two Division I athletes, Adrian Sutton of New Hampshire and Alejandro Lynch of UMass-Lowell.

In the two mile run, senior Brice Tolan (Abington/Abington HS) and sophomore Sam Capobianco (North Reading/Phillips Andover HS) were fifth and sixth, respectively. Tolan finished in 9:32.33 and Capobianco followed in 9:38.39, good for eighth on the NE10 performance list.

Junior Matthew Chicko (North Andover/North Andover HS) established a new personal best in the 1500 with his 4:11.79 placing him seventh in a field of 30.

Junior Evan Bean (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS) was seventh of 14 in the 400 (51.89) and classmate Ryan Dennehy (Andover/Andover HS) was ninth of 24 in the 100 (11.55).

Senior Jack Deehan (Westwood/Westwood HS) moved to eighth on the conference performance list in the 800 following a 1:57.77.

Grad student Sirish Modhagala (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington HS) moved to ninth on the NE10 list in the steeplechase with his 10:39.96 establishing a new PR by more than 15 seconds.

In the javelin, junior Nick Luther (Groton, Conn./Marine Science Magnet HS) was eighth of 16 (146'8").

Bentley's next action will be the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational next Saturday.
