Lawes & Pittorino Lead Bentley During Day 2 of Northeast-10 Championships
EASTON, Mass. – Freshman Alex Lawes (Brick, N.J./Brick Township HS) and senior Derek Pittorino (Westboro/Westboro HS) had the top finishes for the Bentley University men's outdoor track and field team during day two of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Saturday at Stonehill College's W.B. Mason Stadium.
Lawes was third in the 400 hurdles, with his time of 55.74 seconds the second fastest of his career. His best, a 55.16, came Friday in the prelims.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Pittorino and junior Nick Ondr (Ozark, Mo./Glendale HS) were fourth and sixth, respectively. Pittorino finished in 10:30.31, a new personal best by 5.02 seconds, and Ondr followed in 10:35.62.
Junior Jack Deehan (Westwood/Westwood HS) ran to fifth in the 800 with a 1:57.75 clocking.
Bentley, with a score of 27 points, finished eighth in the championships.
Southern Connecticut State captured the championship easily with the Owls' 269 points more than double that of runner-up American International (128).
Selected members of the Bentley team will compete in the New Englands next weekend at Bryant.
