Bentley Finishes 1st in 4x400 Relay at Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bentley University senior co-captain Joey Wix (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial HS) anchored a 4x400 relay team that finished first during the William Sutherland Invitational at Southern Connecticut State University's Moore Field House Saturday.

Wix teamed with sophomore Evan Bean (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS) and freshmen Hayden Pike (South Weymouth, Mass./South Weymouth HS) and Alex Lawes (Brick, N.J./Brick Township HS) for a 3:39.67.

Second in the 4x400 was another Bentley quartet. Freshman Coop Caizzo (Lunenburg, Mass./ Cushing Academy), sophomore Finn Power (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme HS) and juniors Jack Deehan (Westwood, Mass./Westwood HS) and Brice Tolan (Abington, Mass./Abington HS) finished in 3:40.00.

Bentley had three of the top four finishers in the mile with Tolan second of 19 in a personal best 4:36.63. Senior Derek Pittorino (Westborough, Mass./Westborough HS) was third (4:37.36) and Deehan was fourth (4:37.78, a new PR).

In a field of eight in the 400, Lawes were fifth and sixth, respectively. Lawes ran a 54.67 and Pike following in 56.34.

Freshman Henry Yang (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS) ran the 800 in 2:13.36, good for eighth among 25 runners.

Bentley was fifth of seven teams with 43 points. Southern Connecticut finished first in their own event, with a 142.5, and Franklin Pierce followed with 99.

Next Saturday, Bentley will be at Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
