Edwards & Tolan Post 2nd-Place Finishes During GBTC Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bentley University men's indoor track and field team competed in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitation at Harvard University's Gordon Track on Sunday and turned in a number of top five performances, including seconds from both senior Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./ Morristown HS) and freshman Brice Tolan (Abington/Abington HS).

Edwards was one of three Falcons to finish in the top nine of the 3,000 meters. He was second of 43 in 9:12.25 and was followed by freshman Aidan Cremins (Katy, Texas/Obra D. Tompkins HS) and junior Soham Basu (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood HS). Cremins was seventh in 9:27.53 and Basu was ninth in 9:31.60.

Tolan was the runner-up in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:03.55. Also in that event, senior Shawn Andrade (Suffield, Conn./Suffield HS) was eighth in 2:10.50.

Senior Antonio Catino (North Reading/North Reading HS) was second in the prelims of the 60 hurdles (8.88) and the Falcons were also second in the 4x440 yard relay (2:37.51). Andrade ran the opening leg and was joined by senior Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS) and a pair of sophomores, Devin Wendel (Westfield, N.J./Westfield HS) and Joe Wix (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial HS).

Gettings was third of 37 in the 400 (52.05) and sophomore Timothy Tat (Waltham/Watertown HS) was third in the weight throw (31'8.75").

Senior Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) turned in a trio of fourth-place finishes while competing in the 300 (37.16), the 60 (7.20) and the long jump (20'10.75"). There were 33 who participated in the 300, 60 in the 60 and 28 in the long jump. His performance in the 300 improved on his personal best by 0.16 seconds and moved him to seventh on Bentley's all-time list.

Also in the 60, junior Brian Shevlin (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade HS) was seventh in 7.23 (a PR by.05 seconds) and sophomore Nick Czelewicz (Lowell/Lowell HS) was tenth (7.39).

In the shot put, seniors J.T. Brine (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) and Adam Jankowski (Burlington/Burlington HS) were fourth and fifth, respectively. Brine released a throw o 38'3.25" and Jankowski turned in a distance of 37'3".

 Sophomore Derek Pittorino (Westborough/Westborough HS) was fifth of 17 in the 1,000, finishing in 2:44.61.

Next Saturday, Bentley will be at Boston University for the John Terrier Classic.
