Arnold’s Senior Year Gets Off to Strong Start during Emmanuel Indoor Spring Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) turned in three top-eight performances as the Bentley University men's indoor track and field team launched its season at the Emmanuel College Indoor Season Opener at the Reggie Lewis Center Saturday.

Arnold finished fifth in a field of 77 in the 60 meters (7.19 prelims, 7.18 finals), eighth of 72 in the 200 (23.47) and sixth of 39 in the long jump (20'9.25"). His time in the 60 boosted him to 11th on Bentley's all-time list.

In the mile, sophomore Derek Pittorino (Westborough/Westborough HS) and freshman Brice Tolan (Abington/Abington HS) ran the Northeast-10's third and fourth best times of the opening weekend. Pittorino was fifth among 46 runners with a 4:38.73 and Tolan ninth in 4:41.53.

The 5,000 saw senior Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) improve on his personal best by more than 21 seconds while finished seventh of 40. His time of 15:48.20 was a Northeast-10 opening weekend best. Freshman Nick Ondr (Ozark, Mo./Glendale HS), after an outstanding cross country season, was eighth in 15:55.90, good for third on the NE10 performance list.

In the 1,000, sophomore Christian Lestik (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown HS) was third of 11 in 2:44.27 and senior Shawn Andrade (Suffield, Conn./Suffield HS) sixth in 2:47.85.

Sophomore Joe Wix (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial HS) was seventh of 29 in the 400 and established a new PR in the process. He posted a 52.64, sixth best on the NE10 list and a PR by 2.63 seconds.

Jared Reimer (Berlin, Conn./Berlin HS), another sophomore, was 11th of 77 in the 60 with his 7.36 a personal best. Junior Antonio Catino (North Reading/North Reading HS) was eighth of 20 in the 60 hurdles (9.25) and freshman Joe Balboni (Tewksbury/Tewksbury HS) was ninth of 18 in the 500 (1:11.43).       

The next action for Bentley is a month away, the Reggie Poyau Memorial at Brandeis on Jan. 11.
