Sihvonen Set to Compete in Javelin Saturday at NCAA Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – Owning the nation's 12th best qualifying performance, Bentley University junior Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) will compete in the javelin during the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

The javelin is scheduled for a 2:25 pm start with live video available at http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2017/05/27.

Sihvonen, the first Bentley student-athlete to participate in the NCAA Men's Outdoor Championships since 2006, broke his own school record in the javelin with a throw of 214 feet, 10 inches during Bryant University's Black and Gold Invitational on Apr. 1. He met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in seven of the eight meets that he competed in this spring and topped 200 feet five times.

In his two most recent competitions, Sihvonen finished third in both the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on May 5 and the New Englands a week later.  He turned in a throw of 193'9" at the NE10's and achieved a 202'11" at the New Englands.

The field at the NCAAs includes Georgian Court's Michael Brazzel, who was third in 2016 with a throw of 217'1", and top qualifier Nils Fischer of Angelo State (233'9").
