Sihvonen Invited to Compete in Javelin at NCAA Division II Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – It will be off to Bradenton, Fla. next week for Bentley University junior Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS), who was selected Tuesday to participate in the javelin at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Championships will be held May 25-27 at the IMG Academy with the men's javelin scheduled for the meet's final day.

Sihvonen, who'll be making his first trip to the nationals, has the 12th best qualifying distance, 214'10", among the 20-man field.  He achieved that school record performance on April 1 during the Black and Gold Invitational at Bryant University.

Sihvonen will make the trip to the NCAAs after finishing third in both the New England Championships (202'11") and the Northeast-10 Championships (193'9"). His season has also included wins in the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational (185'11") and the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College (206'3").

Sihvonen is the first Bentley man to compete in the outdoor NCAAs since Stephen Ramirez ran the mile in 2006.

Bentley senior Tim Bolick (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) missed making the field in the 800 meters by only a half-second after running a 1:51.68 during the New Englands this past weekend.
