Sihvonen Collects 4th NE10 Men’s Field Athlete of the Week Award; Arnold Receives Rookie Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the fourth time in the last five weeks, Bentley University junior javelin thrower Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) has been selected as the Men's Field Athlete of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

In addition, the Northeast-10 recognized Falcon freshman Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) as the conference's Men's Field Rookie of the Week.

Sihvonen earned his latest honor by throwing the javelin 209'4" during the UC San Diego Triton Invitational Saturday to finish 8th among 35 competitors and third among Division II athletes. It was the second best throw in the conference this season, trailing only his school record 214'10" achieved at Bryant earlier this month.

On the Division II performance list for the season, Sihvonen ranks seventh nationally and second among East Region competitors.

At the MIT Sean Collier Invitational this past Saturday, Arnold finished first in the long jump with his 21'6.25" sixth best in the NE10 this season and ninth best in program history. He was also seventh of 30 in the 100 meters (11.59 seconds), 11th of 34 in the 200 (23.81), and a member of Bentley's 4x100 that finished in 45.86.

Two members of Bentley's women's track team were named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll for their achievements at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, senior Julia Morena (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) and sophomore Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS).

Morena led all the way while capturing the 5,000 meters in 18:01.47, winning by 21.5 seconds. That was the third best time recorded in the NE10 this spring.

Mattson shattered former All-America Amy Varsell's school record in the 400 meters by 0.75 seconds, finishing eighth overall in 57.08 seconds. That was a PR by 1.71 seconds and third best in the NE10 in 2017. She also excelled in the field events, bettering her previous best in the triple jump by more than two feet with her 36'9" (11.20m) third best in program history and in the NE10 this spring. In addition, she was 11th of 44 in the long jump with a mark of 17'10.25" (5.44m).

On Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational, the Falcons' final meet before the Northeast-10 Championships are held on the same track May 5-6.
