Sihvonen Collects 3rd Straight NE-10 Athlete of the Week Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the third straight week, Bentley University junior javelin thrower Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) has been selected as the Field Athlete of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Sihvonen earned his latest accolade by placing second in Saturday's Yellow Jack Invitational at American International College with a throw of 194 feet, five inches.

The reigning Northeast-10 javelin champion, Sihvonen broke his own Bentley school record earlier this month with a throw of 214 feet, 10 inches during the Black and Gold Invitational at Bryant University. That bettered the mark he set last April by more than 12 feet and is the sixth best achieved by a Division II athlete so far this spring.

The Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included two of Sihvonen's teammates, senior Tim Bolick (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) and freshman Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS).

Bolick ran to victory in the 800 meters, his season-best time of 1:55.97 giving him a 0.34 second victory over Southern Connecticut's Dieter Gutbrod.

Gettings finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with his time of 57.71 seconds a PR, fourth best in the Northeast-10 this season and good for seventh on Bentley's all-time list.  He also helped the Falcons run the 4x400 in 3:43.44.

This Friday and Saturday, Bentley will be at Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational. Sihvonen is the two-time javelin champ at that meet and it was at that location, only about a half-hour from his hometown. where he became the first Falcon to exceed 200 feet.
