Alatalo, Sihvonen & a Relay Team Receive NE10 Weekly Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University men's track and field team was well represented in the latest Northeast-10 Conference weekly awards with senior Erik Alatalo (Wilmington/Wilmington HS), junior Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) and a relay team recognized for their performance in the outdoor season-opening Bridgewater Bears Invitational.

Alatalo was named the NE10 Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Sihvonen was the choice for NE10 Men's Field Athlete of the Week. The Men's Relay Team of the week. Earning Men's Relay Team of the Week honors were the quartet of senior David Stoffel (Luxembourg), junior Ben Brayton (Middleboro/Middleboro HS), sophomore Ryan Kenney (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta HS) and freshman Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS).

Alatalo ran the fastest 10,000-meter time in the NE10 this past weekend, placing fourth overall in 31:56.08. That was a career-best by 23.15 seconds.

Sihvonen, the reigning conference champion in the javelin, provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in the event with his throw of 200'6" (61.11m) coming within 2.5 inches of his own school record. He was fourth overall in the meet and second among collegians.

In the 4x400 relay, Bentley finished second overall  with a time of 3:34.48.

Bentley's next meet is the Bryant Invitational on Sunday. It was originally scheduled for Saturday but moved to the inclement weather hitting the area.
