Bolick & Edwards Earn Wins as Bentley Opens Indoor Season with UMass-Boston Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Tim Bolick (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) and freshman Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) won events as the Bentley University men's indoor track and field team opened its season with the UMass-Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center Saturday.

Bolick ran to victory in the mile, finishing first among 45 competitors in a new personal best 4:21.49. That improved on his previous PR by 3.63 seconds. Also in the mile, freshman Michael Cannata (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) was fifth in 4:29.10 in his collegiate debut.

Edwards combined with sophomore Dan Hergott (Wallingford, Conn./Xavier HS) as Bentley went 1-2 in the 3,000 meters. Edwards, in his collegiate indoor debut, won in 9:03.07 and Hergott followed him across the line in 9:06.52. Also in the 3,000, sophomore Nicholas Accardi (Seekonk/Seekonk HS) set a PR while finishing 14th (9:37.29).

Freshman Alex  Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) was another freshman who had a solid debut for the Falcons, finishing fifth of 34 in the long jump (20'5"), sixth of 20 in the triple jump (41'4.25") and 26th of 92 in the 60 (7.37).

Senior Greg Karpacz (Wayland/Wayland HS) was sixth of 21 in the 1,000 (2:42.09), freshman Josh Gettings (Lowell/ Lowell HS) won his heat and placed 11th of 30 in the 500 (1:09.70) and senior David Stoffel (Luxembourg) was 13th of 53 in the 400 (52.62). Gettings and Stoffel were also part of Bentley's 4x400 relay that placed seventh of 27 (3:33.58), along with sophomore Anthony Giesing (Bradford, Vt./Oxbow HS) and Ryan Kenney (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta Sperry HS).

Other highlights for the Falcons were Dillon Sylvester (Franklin, N.H./Franklin HS) finishing ninth of 23 and narrowly missing the finals in the 60 hurdles (9:34), freshman Thomas Abraham (Lowell/Lowell HS) placing 16th of 45 in 16:06.00, freshman J.T. Brine (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) throwing the shot 40'1.5" to finish 17th of 54, and classmate Tristan Leachman (Falmouth/Falmouth HS) debuting with a 16th place finish, out of 104, in the 200 (23.56).

Bentley's next meet is six weeks away, the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis on Jan. 14.
