Beckwith Sets School Record in Shot; Charter Finishes 1st in Long Jump

NORTH EASTON, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Eric Beckwith (North Attleboro/ North Attleboro HS) broke the school record in the shot put and junior teammate Anthony Charter (Hubbardston/Quabbin Reg. HS) finished first in the long jump to top the list of performances by the Falcon men's outdoor track and field team during Friday night's Skyhawk Invitational at Stonehill College's W.B. Mason Stadium.

Beckwith threw the shot 48 feet, 3.5 inches to better than record set by Kevin Chan seven years ago by 20 inches and improve on his previous best by more than three feet. He placed fifth overall and third among Northeast-10 competitors.

Charter captured the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 5.25 inches. That was four-and-a-half inches better than runner-up Mark Cohen of American International.

In the 1500 meters, senior Conor Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and freshman Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) both established new personal bests. Higgins was fifth of 31 in 3:56.84, a time that moved him to number seven on Bentley's all-time list and ranks sixth on this year's NE-10 performance list. Haas' 4:00.08 put him in eighth place and was the second fastest by an NE-10 freshman this year.

Junior John Chiulli (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) was fourth of 18 in the discus with his 137'9" a new PR and the sixth best in the conference this year.

Junior Christian Connolly (Kingston/Silver Lake Regional HS) and sophomore Sean Nee (West Yarmouth/Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS) both scored in the 800, with Connolly seventh (1:56.47) and Nee eighth (1:57.79).

Sophomore Anthony Strong (Emmaus, Pa./Macungie HS) and freshman Lawrence Greenidge (Randolph/Boston College HS) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the triple jump. Strong cleared 42'2", and Greenidge followed in 40'5.5".

In the javelin, sophomore Wes Dupray (Rowley/St. John's Prep) moved to eighth on the NE-10 performance list with his 161'9" a PR by six-and-a-half feet and good for sixth place. Junior Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) was eighth in the 400, finishing in 51.02 seconds.

In the team standings, Bentley was eighth in an eight-team field, amassing 47 points. The host team claimed first place with 157 points, nearly 30 more than runner-up Boston College (127.5).

Bentley will also be in action Sunday with the Regis Pride Classic in Weston.
