Strong Showing by Bentley Freshmen in BU Dave Hemery Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Among the top performers for the Bentley University men's indoor track team during Saturday's Boston University Dave Hemery Valentine Invitational were a trio of freshmen: Tim Bolick (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS), Eric Beckwith (North Attleboro/North Attleboro HS) and Matt Powell (Charlton/St. Johns-Shrewsbury).

In the massive meet held at the BU Track and Tennis Center, Bolick finished 38th of 87 in the 1000 meters with his time of 2:32:16 second amongst Division II competitors. It also moved him into the top five on the Northeast-10 performance list.

Powell was 22nd of 69 in the long jump as his distance of 21 feet, 4.75 inches bettered his previous best by more than nine inches. He was fifth among Division II student-athletes and moved into a tie for 11th on Bentley's all-time list.

Beckwith threw the shot 45 feet, 2.25 inches to place fourth among Division II participants and 27th of 73 overall.

Sophomore Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) sprinted to a pair of top 45 finishes. He was 39th of 117 in the 60 meters (7.20) and 41st of 234 in the 200 (22.37). The latter put him 25th among collegians and fourth among the Division II runners.

Junior Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) had a solid meet as he established new personal bests in both the 200 and 400 meters. His 50.54 in the 200 put him 75th out of 196 and moved him into a tie for 11th on Bentley's all-time list. He ran the 200 in 23.30, placing 139th in a field of 234.

In the triple jump, sophomore Anthony Strong (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus HS) was 16th of 37 overall and ninth amongst collegians. He jumped 42 feet, 11 inches to better his previous PR by more than three feet.

Bentley also competed in the distance medley on Friday with Bolick and Maffiolini partnering with senior Conor Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and junior Christian Connolly (Kingston/ Silver Lake Regional HS). They were 14th of 21 overall with their time of 10:19.09 ranking fifth in program history.

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
