Strong Showing for Nee in 800 during John Thomas Terrier Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- Bentley University sophomore Sean Nee (West Yarmouth/Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS) just missed provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track Championships in the 800 meters during Saturday's John Thomas Terrier Invitational at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.

Nee, who was second in his heat, finished in 1:54.73 in his first career 800, a time that elevated him to number six on Bentley's all-time list. Overall in the event, he finished 30th in a field of 118. His performance bettered the listed qualifying time for the NCAA Division II Championships, but came up just short when it was adjusted due to BU's banked tracks to 1:56.37.

Sophomore Edy-Elliott Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) had two of Bentley's best finishes in the meet as he was 34th of 111 in the 60 meters (7.12 seconds) and tied for 20th among 58 in the long jump (20 feet, 4.5 inches).

Among the several Bentley athletes who posted new PR's were junior Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) and freshman Eric Beckwith (North Attleboro/North Attleboro HS). Maffiolini won his heat in the 400 and finished 72th of 154 overall with his time of 50.62 seconds an improvement on his previous best by 0.47 seconds. Beckwith, already number two in program history in the shot, improved on his throw of last week by two inches, with his distance of 46 feet, 2 inches putting him 25th of 64.

In the 800, new personal bests were achieved by three others in addition to Nee. Junior Christian Connolly (Kingston/Silver Lake Reg. HS) finished in 2:00.19 with freshman Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) (2:00.21) and sophomore David Cooper (Woburn/Woburn HS) (2:00.69) following.

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Harvard Invitational.
