Uthman-Olukokun Punches Two Tickets to Finals During Day 1 of Northeast-10’s

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Bentley University sprinter Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) continued an impressive freshman year by qualifying for Saturday's finals in both the 100 meters and 200 meters during the first day of competition at the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at American International College.

Uthman-Olukokun was the number two qualifier in the 100 with a time of 11.13, and his 22.24 in the 200 put him sixth among qualifiers in that event.

In addition, Uthman-Olukokun shared seventh place in the long jump with sophomore teammate Anthony Charter (Hubbardston/Quabbin Reg. HS), each setting a new personal best by clearing 22 feet, 5.25 inches. That elevated both to number two on Bentley's all-time list, behind only standout decathlete Mark Ivanov '89.

Sophomore John Chiulli (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) earned a fifth-place finish in the discus with his throw of 136 feet, one inch a new PR.

Also scoring for the Falcons were senior Teddy Farley (Acton/Acton-Boxborough Reg. HS) and sophomore Kyle Sullivan (Burlington/Burlington HS). Farley was sixth in the 10,000 meters, finishing in 32:53.69, and Sullivan was eighth in the javelin, uncorking a throw of 154 feet, five inches.

Senior John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) set a PR in the 1500 by more than three seconds, breaking four minutes for the first time, but just missed scoring with a ninth-place finish. His 3:59.29 moved him to number ten on Bentley's all-time list.

Bentley, with 11 points, will be in seventh place when action resumes on Saturday with field events at 10:30 and running events two hours later. Southern Connecticut State sits atop the team stanings with a 29-point lead on second-place Stonehill, 78-49.
