Drago, Maguire Lead Bentley to Fifth Place Finish in Northeast-10 Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Bentley University seniors John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) and Sean Maguire (Essex, Vt./Essex HS) each recorded second-place finishes while helping the Falcons take fifth place in the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Indoor Track Championships Saturday night at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Drago's silver came in the 3,000, with his 8:37.91 a personal best by 16 seconds, and Maguire ran the 5,000 in 15:03.16, a New England qualifying time and also a PR. Both were beaten out by a runner from American International with Michael Biwott taking the 3K in 8:31.05 and Glarius Rop the 5K in 14:28.33.

Freshman Edy-Elliot Uthman-Olukokun (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick HS) had a busy and successful night in just his second meet as a collegian. He was fourth in the 60 meter dash, with his time of 7.05 just two-hundredths of a second off the school record, and matched that placing in the long jump, clearing 22 feet, 5.25 inches. That put him third on Bentley's all-time list and was the Falcons' best since 1989.

Uthman-Olukokun also placed ninth in the 200 with his 22.76 eighth-best in program history, and was 11th in the triple jump (41'6").

Junior Eric Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS), the school record-holder in the 200 (22.23), placed fourth in 22.43, and Bentley's other top six individual effort was posted by freshman Sean Nee (West Yarmouth/Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS) in the 1000 (sixth in a new PR of 2:34.44).

Two Bentley relays placed sixth in the meet, the 4x800 in 8:18.29 and the distance medley in 10:46.39. The former included Nee, senior Jordan Parkinson (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth HS) and sophomores Joey Carroll (West Kingstown, R.I./South Kingstown HS) and Christian Connolly (Kingston/Silver Lake Reg. HS). Maguire anchored the distance medley, which also included junior Brendan Colford (Epping, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) and seniors Craig Robinson (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) and Derek Sit (Wellesley/Wellesley HS).

Also scoring for Bentley in the meet was freshman Connor Hichens (Sharon/Sharon HS), with an eight-place showing in the triple jump (42'0.75").

Bentley totaled 41 points to take fifth in an 11-team meet. Only four points separated the top three with Stonehill College (162) edging UMass-Lowell (159.5) and Southern Connecticut State (158) for the championship.

This coming weekend, Bentley will compete in the New Englands at Boston University.
