Kennedy, Carton Record Wins at Season-Opening UMass-Boston Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Eric Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) and senior co-captain Bryan Carton (Norwell/Norwell HS) each turned in winning performances as the Bentley University men's indoor track team opened its season at the UMass-Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center Saturday.

Kennedy won the 200 meters by four-hundredths of a second over Brian Espinosa of Bridgewater State, breaking the tape in 22.99 seconds. He also placed sixth in a field of 65 in the 60-yard dash, posting times of 7.26 in the prelims, winning his heat in the process, and 7.25 in the finals.

Carton's win came in the 500 meters as he finished in 1:07.80. That gave him a 2.18 second margin of victory over Emmanuel's Ryan Thomas.  He was also part of the Falcons' 4x400 relay that placed sixth of 14 in 3:34.59. That quartet also included senior Grant Nolan (Concord, N.H./Concord HS) and a pair of sophomores, Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) and Christian Connolly (Kingston/Silver Lake Regional HS).

A total of 40 runners participated in the mile and Bentley took second and third. Freshman Sean Nee (West Yarmouth/Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS) was the runner-up in 4:33.25, about three seconds off the winning pace, and senior Jordan Parkinson (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth HS) followed him across the line in 4:34.12

Sophomore Anthony Charter (Hubbardston/Quabbin Reg. HS) had a pair of top five finishes in his season-debut. He was fourth of 25 in the long jump, setting a new PR of 21 feet, four inches in the process, and was fifth of 17 in the triple jump (41 feet, 11.5 inches).

Maffiolini was fifth of 25 in the 400 meters (52.70 seconds) and senior Chris Letourneau (Franklin/Franklin HS) was sixth of 18 in the 800 (2:04.93).
