Horwitz and Pran Win in Doubles, but Bentley Falls to Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Bentley's doubles team of junior Gabe Horwitz (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lake Oswego) and freshman Nikolai Pran (Oslo, Norway) won their doubles match, but the Falcons fell to Adelphi 7-0 on Sunday afternoon on the road.

The Panthers won their 5th straight match and improved to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in Northeast-10 Conference matches. The Falcons dropped to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in NE10 play.

In the No. 2 doubles match, Horwitz and Pran defeated Adelphi's Thiago Negrao and Thomas Horsley, 6-4.

Bentley's other doubles pairings were Jordan Soifer (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) and Max Bonte (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens) in No. 1 and Tawan Rattaseri (Bangkok, Thailand) and Liam Marr (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) in No. 3. But Adelphi took both of those matches to win the doubles point and go up 1-0 in the match.

Adelphi swept the singles matches, but the No. 3 and 4 matches went the distance.

Horwitz took on Gabe Balestero in No. 3 and won the first set 7-5. But Balestero rallied and won the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Pran battled Reece Farrow in No. 4. Farrow took the lead with a 6-3 victory in the first set, but Pran evened it with a 6-4 win in the second set. However, Farrow nabbed the decisive third set 6-2.

The other singles matches had Soifer in No. 1, Bonte in No. 2, Rattaseri in No. 5 and Marr in No. 6.

Bentley's next match is set for Tuesday when they host Franklin Pierce at 3:00 PM.
