Bentley Wins NE10 Opener over Assumption, 5-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – Bentley University defeated Assumption 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon in its first NE10 match of the season.

The match marked a winning second debut at Bentley for new head coach Alex Wong, who is beginning his second stint as head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs after a highly successful first stint.

"I'm proud of how the team competed today, and how they have handled the transition to a new coach with such maturity," Wong said. "They have all been so welcoming and I am looking forward to the rest of the season. We have a lot of matches in a short period of time, but we are looking forward to them and I know the team will continue to embrace the challenges." 

Jordan Soifer (Stamford, Conn./Westhill), Max Bonte (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens) and Gabe Horwitz (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lake Oswego) each won in both singles and doubles for the Falcons.

Bentley swept all three doubles matches to win the doubles point. They won the No. 1-No. 3 singles matches, plus No. 5.

Bonte and Soifer combined for a victory in No. 1 doubles, 6-2 over Bernardo Balancho and Adrian Toderascu. Horwitz and freshman Nikolai Pran (Oslo, Norway) defeated Jakob Bordt and Yannick Heitzberg 6-4 in No. 2. And in No. 3, Noah Monsanto (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) and Diego Ramos (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) knocked off Alan Nguyen and Jose Silas 6-4.

In singles, Soifer won the No. 1 match over Heitzberg 7-5, 6-2. Bonte got the better of Balancho in No. 2, 6-4, 6-1 and in No. 3 Horwitz swept past Bordt 6-4, 6-1.

Tawan Rattaseri (Bangkok, Thailand) was victorious in No. 5, 7-6, 6-4 over Silas.

Bentley improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the NE10. They will visit Stonehill tomorrow at 3:30 PM for a non-conference match.
