Men’s Tennis Set for NE10 Playoff Match at Adelphi

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley men's tennis team earned a spot in the 2022 Northeast-10 Championship and they were drawn against the Adelphi Panthers in the first round. The match will take place on Tuesday at 1:00 pm in Garden City, N.Y.

The Falcons went 3-4 in the NE10 regular season to finish in a tie for fourth place with Saint Michael's and Franklin Pierce, and due to tiebreakers they ended up with the No. 6 seed. The team went 11-9 in the regular season overall.

The Panthers went 5-2 in the NE10 regular season to earn the No. 3 seed and they will enter the postseason with a 7-7 record overall.

Junior Jordan Soifer (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) ended the regular season leading Bentley in singles wins with nine, and he posted a 4-2 mark in NE10 singles matches playing mostly from the No. 3 position. In the regular season meeting between these two teams on April 9, he won the No. 3 match in three sets over sophomore Adi Saginayev, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6.

Bentley's other singles victory in that match came from graduate student Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket). He took the No. 2 match over grad student Gabe Balestero in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.

Aulson is currently second on the team with eight singles wins overall. He sits just one singles win away from reaching 50 for his career.

Aulson and fellow grad student Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) comprise Bentley's No. 1 doubles team. The pair went 6-4 in the regular season and 3-1 in NE10 matches. The duo won the No. 1 doubles match in the regular season encounter with the Panthers, 7-6 over Balestero and freshman Marko Jovanovic.

Weitz isn't far behind Aulson on Bentley's career wins list with 43.

Also in the lineup for the Falcons in that regular season match against Adelphi was senior Alex Novins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley), who teamed with Soifer in No. 2 doubles and played in No. 4 singles. Sophomore Gabe Horwitz (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lake Oswego) and freshman Noah Monsanto (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) were the No. 3 doubles pairing and also featured in singles, with Horwitz in No. 5 and Monsanto in No. 6.

The other first round match on Tuesday in the NE10 Championship will see the No. 4 seed Saint Michael's hosting the No. 5 seed Franklin Pierce. Le Moyne earned the top seed for the second straight year after going 7-0 in the NE10 regular season. The Dolphins will host the winner of the Saint Michael's and Franklin Pierce match in the semifinals on Thursday.

Southern New Hampshire is the No. 2 seed after the went 6-1 in NE10 matches. They will host the Bentley-Adelphi winner in the semifinals on Thursday.

The championship match is set for Saturday, hosted by the highest remaining seed. Le Moyne is the defending champion after they beat Franklin Pierce in the finals last season.
