Bentley Tops Franklin Pierce 5-2

RINDGE, N.H. – The Bentley men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over NE10 rival Franklin Pierce on Tuesday afternoon.

The Falcons won all three doubles matches to win the doubles point and to take a 1-0 lead into singles. Bentley then won four of the six to clinch the match.

Four different players won in both singles and doubles on the day, sophomore Max Bonte (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens), junior Jordan Soifer (Stamford, Conn./Westhill), senior Alex Novins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and sophomore Gabe Horwitz (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lake Oswego).

Bentley's efforts in doubles were led by the team of grad students Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn). They won the No. 1 match 6-4 over the Ravens team of Ivan Bernal and Kevin Denecheau.

In No. 2, Bonte and Soifer defeated Alejandro Ortiz and Nkrumah Patrick 6-4 and in No. 3 Novins and Horwitz got the better of Felipe Carvalho and Joshua Arnold by a 6-2 score.

In the singles matches, Carvalho and Bernal won the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, but it was all Bentley the rest of the way.

Bonte defeated Denecheau in three sets in No. 3, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. Soifer topped Patrick in straight sets in No. 4, 6-2, 7-5. Novins defeated Preston Gordon in No. 5 by a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 score and Horwitz swept past Ortiz in No. 6, 6-1, 6-4.

The Falcons improved to 10-7 overall and 2-1 NE10 with the win. They'll be back in action on Saturday against Adelphi. That will be a 1:00 PM start for Senior Day.
