Boston, Mass. – Seniors Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) and Mauricio Fadul (Miami, Fla.) won in singles, but the Bentley University men's tennis team couldn't complete the comeback in singles as they fell to Southern New Hampshire 5-2 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

SNHU won the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, but the Falcons nearly rallied in singles.

Weitz won the No. 1 match, 6-4, 6-2 over Willem van Biezen, and Fadul took the No. 5 match in three sets over Sam Goddard. Goddard took the first set 6-3, but Fadul rallied to win the match by taking the final two sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Three other singles matches went to three sets. Senior Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) squared off against Bas van Biezen in the No. 2 match. Van Biezen won the first set 6-4 and Aulson took the second set 7-5. Van Biezen though secured the match with a 6-3 win in the decisive third set.

The No. 4 match saw Bentley's Alexander Novins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) go up against SNHU's Guido Jannsen. Jannsen won the first set 6-3 before Novins responded by winning the second set 6-4. Jannsen though won the match in the third set, 6-3.

The No. 6 match saw the Falcons' Sergio Blanco (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) faceoff with SNHU's Zachary Duboulay. The first two sets were split as Duboulay won the first 6-3 and Novins the second 7-6. Duboulay though won a hard-fought third set, 10-7.

The doubles pairings for Bentley were Weitz and Aulson in the No. 1 match, Fadul and Novins in the No. 2 match, and a pair of Bentley debutants in the No. 3 match, Gabe Horowitz (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lake Oswego) and Max Bonte (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens).

Bentley will look to bounce back when they face Stonehill on Tuesday in its next scheduled match.
