Bentley Edged by Southern New Hampshire, 5-4

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire finished the Northeast-10 regular season unbeaten, but not without a stern test from Bentley as the Falcons nearly came away with the match, but the Penmen emerged victorious 5-4 on Friday night.

Southern New Hampshire led 2-1 after doubles, and a split of the six singles matches wasn't enough for Bentley to overcome it.

The Falcons finished the NE10 regular season with a 5-4 record, and will find out their seed and opponent for the NE10 Championship when the regular season concludes tomorrow.

Bentley's point in doubles came in the No. 3 match from Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah). They defeated Jeremy Reichentahl and Adam Courtemanche 8-3. Bentley's No. 2 team of Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick) and Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) came close, but dropped a 9-7 decision to Miguel Marreiros and Xavier Aubron.

Bentley's wins in singles came from Granat, Fuca and freshman Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex). Granat defeated Marreiros in the No. 3 position after he dropped the first set, and rallied for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 victory. Fuca took a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Reichentahl in the No. 5 match. Au won his seventh straight singles match with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Courtemanche.

The Northeast-10 Championship will get underway on Tuesday.
