Rindo Named ITA Div. II East Region Ashe Award Winner

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University men's tennis player Jimmy Rindo (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) has been named the recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's 2013 Division II East Region Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship.

The Ashe Award recognizes student-athletes throughout all NCAA Divisions and at the regional and national level.  The award is given to players, "who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements." Rindo is now eligible for the Division II National Arthur Ashe Award.

Rindo, a junior, is the third Falcon in the last four seasons to win the East Region's Ashe Award, joining Alec Spycher (2012) and Lorenzo Cava (2010). Cava went on to win the national award.

A finance major, Rindo's play on the court has helped the Falcons be one of the top teams in the Northeast-10 over the last several years. This season he went 5-4 in NE-10 singles matches, playing primarily in the No. 2 spot, and went a combined 6-3 in conference doubles matches. Rindo also had success in the fall tournaments, making the finals of the B Singles Tournament at the ITA East Regionals and winning a singles tournament at the Quinnipiac Invitational.

Off the court Rindo has been a Dean's List student and is a member of the SAAC Committee at Bentley.

Also, two of Rindo's teammates, senior Rodrigo Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel School) and freshman Kamil Pilch (Wroclaw, Poland/IMG Pendleton), are ranked by the ITA in the latest East Region rankings. Ribeiro is the 12th ranked singles player, while he and Pilch are the 5th ranked doubles team. As a team, the Falcons are ranked 8th in the region.
