So. New Hampshire Denies Bentley in NE-10 Semis, 5-3

WOBURN, Mass. – Third seeded Southern New Hampshire advanced to the finals of the Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championships with a 5-3 victory over second seeded Bentley University in the semifinals at the Woburn Racquet Club Saturday.

The Penmen, who defeated AIC 5-1 in the first round on Wednesday, will play the top seed Merrimack in the finals on Sunday.

Despite losing two of three doubles matches, Southern rallied past Bentley in singles with wins in four of the five completed matches.

The doubles action saw senior Rodrigo Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel School) and freshman Kamil Pilch (Wroclaw, Poland/IMG Pendleton) defeat Mike Wallace and Mitch Dobek in the No. 1 match, 8-4. Southern took the No. 2 match, as Juan Arango-Campo and Evan Eaton bested junior Andrew Waddington (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) and sophomore Alex DeMuth (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) 8-2. But senior Lucas Wever (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel School) and junior Jimmy Rindo (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) gave the Falcons the No. 3 match, 8-4 over Tim Hamilton and Alex Mukdaprakorn.

In singles, Southern won the four matches it needed to reach five points in the No. 1-No. 4 spots.

Dobek defeated Ribeiro in the No. 1 match 6-3, 6-3, Arango-Campo got by Rindo 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 2 match, Wallace earned the point over Pilch 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 3 match and Mukdaprakorn defeated Waddington 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 match.

Bentley's win in singles came from Wever in the No. 5 match, 6-0, 6-4 over Brad Malenich in the No. 5 match.

The Falcons fall to 7-11 on the season. They were ranked No. 7 in the latest NCAA East Region rankings and await word on their NCAA Tournament fate.
