Bentley Shoots for Second Straight NE-10 Title Saturday at SNHU

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University men's tennis team will go for its second straight Northeast-10 championship Saturday afternoon against Southern New Hampshire at 3:00 p.m. The match will take place at the indoor Allard Center in Goffstown, N.H.

The Falcons, seeded third in the tournament, have beaten sixth-seeded Le Moyne and second-seeded Merrimack to get to this point. The top-seeded Penmen knocked off eight-seeded Assumption and fifth-seeded Stonehill.

Both teams finished the regular season with NE-10 records of 10-1, resulting in a three-way tie for first place that included Merrimack. Southern won the regular season match between the two, 6-3 on April 3 in Waltham.

Bentley is making its second straight appearance in the final after sweeping through the tournament last season, not dropping a match and beating Merrimack in the final 5-0. That was the program's fourth conference title and first since 1996. The Penmen are making their first appearance in the final and the co-regular season championship was their first as well.

Both teams are well stocked will All-Conference performers. Bentley features four, led by sophomore Lucas Wever (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel School), named to the second team in No. 1 singles after going 9-2 in that flight. Sophomore Rodrigo Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel School), junior Victor Suski (West Hartford, Conn./William Hall) and freshman Andrew Waddington (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) were the team's other All-Conference selections. Junior Alec Spycher (Sarasota, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal) had a stellar season as well, going 11-0 in NE-10 singles matches.

Southern features the NE-10's Player of the Year in sophomore Mitchell Dobek, who posted a 10-1 record in conference singles matches. Five other Penmen earned All-Conference spots in singles, including Rookie of the Year Juan Arango-Campo.
