Wielgoszinski and Matjucha Medal in 1000 Free; 800 Free Relay Takes Silver

WORCESTER, Mass. – Leighton Wielgoszinski and Andrew Matjucha each won two medals for Bentley on the first night of the Northeast 10 Men's Swimming and Diving Championship.

Wielgoszinski won silver and Matjucha bronze in the 1000 free. They teamed with Carter Ferrara and Daniel Ivanchikov to win silver in the 800 free relay.

Wielgoszinski's time of 9:40.34 was just two seconds off the time of winner Dylan Prescher from Southern Connecticut. It was also a career best time for Wielgoszinski.

Matjucha finished in 9:50.44, a season best for him.

Kai West took eighth at 10:13.25, a season best. Stephen Calabro was 12th with a season best 10:19.88 and Joey Twomey was 13th at 10:22.81, also a season best

In the relay the team finished at 6:54.56, just over three seconds behind Southern Conn.

Ferrara swam the leadoff leg in 1:44.42, followed by Wielgoszinski on the second leg, Matjucha in the third leg and Ivanchikov the anchor leg.

The Falcons finished the first day in second place with 105 points.
