A Golden Friday Night for Bentley Swimming at Northeast-10 Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – It was a golden Friday for the Bentley University swimming and diving teams during day two of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships as the Falcons captured five golds at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The first of the night came in the men's 200 free relay as senior Ryan Looney (Wilton, Conn./Wilton HS), sophomore Tyler Marzano (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley HS), sophomore Calvin Ye (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber HS) and freshman Carter Ferrara (Coto de Caza, Calif./Mater Dei HS) teamed up for a school record time of 1:22.97. That broke a four-year-old school record by 0.10 seconds.

Next was junior Emma Hapkiewicz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) in the 500 yard freestyle. With a time of 5:00.28, she broke her own school record, set at last year's championships, by 2.23 seconds and posted her second NCAA B cut of the meet. It came on the heels of her taking first in the 1000 on Friday and was her fourth individual gold in five career races.

Sophomore Jordan Nuzback (Fairview, Pa./McDowell HS) successfully defended her title in the 200 individual medley, winning by 0.71 seconds with a 2:07.16.

Bentley had another repeat champion in the 50 free with senior Kate Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS) outsprinting the field in 24.21 seconds.

The final gold of the night for the Falcons came in the three-meter diving with senior Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) taking gold for the third consecutive championship with a score of 414.25 points. She's a perfect five-for-five so far in her NE10 championship career.

Bentley also amassed four silver medals during the night, including junior Andrew Matjucha (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) in the 500 free (4:42.36) and Looney in the 50 free (20.93).

The Falcons were also second to Southern Connecticut State in both the men's and women's 400 medley relays. The women finished in 3:58.33 with freshmen Taylor White (Warwick, Bermuda/Warwick Academy), Morgan Kingsley (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia HS) and Caroline Ubert (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington HS) joined by Galvin. For the men, Ye, sophomore Kenneth Ryu (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola HS), senior Anthony Vizental (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley HS) and Looney posted a 3:26.00.

Third place finishes came from Vizental in the 200 IM (1:52.60) and the women's 200 free relay team of senior Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS), sophomore Cleo Zhou (Sharon/Sharon HS), Nuzback and Galvin (1:37.88).

Bentley's only fourth place finish came from graduate student Jeremy Glick (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) in the one-meter diving (379.35).

Ye and freshman Lily Rice (Walton, Ky./Larry A. Ryle HS) were both fifth in the 200 IM, with times of 1:58.31 and 2:13.78, respectively.

There were also sixth-place finishes from White in the 500 free (5:10.86), freshman Leighton Wielgoszinski (Madison, Conn./Madison Consolidated HS) in the men's version of the same event (4:48.71) and Ferrara in the 50 free (21.27).

In the team standings, both Bentley teams are second to Southern Connecticut. The men trail 283-259 and the women are down 75.5 points, 413.5-338.

Saturday's action will get underway with prelims at 10:15 am and the finals at 6 pm. The championships run through Sunday evening.
