Two School Records Highlight Day 3 Bentley Results at Gompei

WORCESTER, Mass. – School records by senior Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) and junior Kate Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS), both in the 100 yard freestyle, topped the list of Bentley University swimming highlights during the final day of the Gompei Invitational at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Each finished second and broke their own record that had been set during the 2020 Northeast-10 Championships.

Galvin bettered her record by two-hundredths of a second with a time of 59.17 seconds and Zoda's 45.72 was an improvement of 0.06 seconds.

 Both were also part of Bentley's mixed free relay that was second in 3:21.92. The quartet also included juniors Marissa Adamo (Hackettstown, N.J./Mount Olive HS) and Anthony Vizental (Concord, Conn./Clayton Valley HS).

Third-place finishes were achieved by sophomore Emily Blatt (Westford/Westford Academy) and junior Tanner Eisenhut (Jamesville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius HS). Blatt swam the 50 breaststroke in 30.88 seconds and Eisenhut posted a 53.25 in the 100 individual medley.

Bentley was fourth in both the men's and women's 400 free relay. Galvin anchored the women's team that finished in 3:36.76 and included senior Lucy Slowe (Millis/Millis HS), Adamo and freshman Jordan Nuzback (Fairview, Pa./McDowell HS). The men's team of senior Zach Papsco (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS), junior Ryan Looney (Wilton, Conn./Wilton HS), Vizental and Zoda turned in a 3:08.70.

Other top performances for the men included sophomore Andrew Matjucha (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) fifth in the 1650 free (16.48.81), Papsco ninth in the 200 butterfly (1:58.71), freshman Kenneth Ryu (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola HS) ninth in the 50 breast (28.09) and grad student Alec Lanza (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead HS) tenth in the 50 breast (28.17).

For the women, senior Rona Mejiritski (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) was fifth in the 200 fly (2:11.99), senior Taylor Gangi (Waltham/Waltham HS) was seventh in the 50 breast (32.53) and Slowe placed ninth in the 100 individual medley (1:04.15).

Bentley finished sixth of nine teams with 4,101.5 combined points. Bryant University took first with 7,779 points with WPI (6,006.5) second and Rowan College (5,028.5) third.

The next competition for the Falcons is at St. Michael's on Jan. 11.
