Bentley Highlights During Day 1 of Gompei Include 2 School Records & Huminski Victory

WORCESTER, Mass. – Highlights for the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving teams during the opening day of the Gompei Invitational at Worcester Polytechnic Institute included a victory by junior diver Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) and a pair of school records.

Huminski dove to victory off the three-meter board with her 411.40 giving her a winning margin of 51.1 points over Bryant's Sydney Barrett. Bentley freshman Hilla Almog (Wayland/ Wayland HS) followed in third after earning a score of 338.55.

Junior Kate Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS) broke her own school record in the 50 yard freestyle, set in the same pool in February 2020, by 0.05 seconds with a time of 24.08. That was good for fourth place among 58 swimmers.

The other school record came in the men's 200 medley relay with Bentley finishing fifth with a 1:34.06, an 0.28 improvement on a mark that was set at the 2019 Gompei. Senior Oscar Chang (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West HS) led off and was followed by senior Zach Papsco (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS), junior Anthony Vizental (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley HS) and senior Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS).

Other fourth-place finishes for Bentley came from freshman Emily Blatt (Westford/Westford Academy) in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.10), Papsco in the 100 butterfly (50.87) and the women's 800 free relay team. Seniors Lucy Slowe (Millis/Millis HS) and Rona Mejiritsky (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) combined with freshman Jordan Nuzback (Fairview, Pa./ McDowell HS) and Galvin for a time of 8:00.49.

Zoda placed fifth in the 50 freestyle (21.06) and the Falcons also received a fifth-place showing in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Slowe, Blatt, Nuzback and Galvin turned in a 1:49.03.

The men's 800 free relay team of Vizental, freshman Andrew Matjucha (Randolph, N.J/Randolph HS), Papsco and Zoda were seventh in 7:09.60, and the men's team also received an eighth from senior Owen Busser (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) in the one-meter diving (336.50).

Galvin and Nuzback tied for eighth in the women's 100 fly, each with a 59.62, and Mejiritski was ninth in the 500 free (5:19.15).

In the combined team scoring, Bentley finished the day seventh of nine teams with 1,154.5 points. Bryant is at the top of the leaderboard with 2,629, good for a lead of 750 points over WPI.
