Bentley Sweeps Northeast-10 Weekly Swimming and Diving Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. – Members of the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving team swept the Northeast-10 Conference weekly awards this week with the honorees including freshman Dan Sausto (Slingerlands, N.Y./Doane Stuart School) and sophomore Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS).

Sausto was named both the Men's Swimmer and Men's Rookie of the Week while Kaduboski was saluted as the Women's Swimmer of the Week.

In addition, senior Gregory Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) was recognized as the NE-10 Men's Diver of the Week and freshman Caroline Logozzo (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield HS) was tabbed both the Women's Diver of the Week and the Women's Rookie of the Week.

In addition, Bentley had the Men's Relay Team of the Week with juniors Chris Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) honored along with freshmen Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy) and Jardo Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS). They finished second in 2:10.88 in the 200 free, just getting nosed out by eight-hundredths of a second.

All were recognized for their efforts in the Falcons' season-opening meet against Wheaton College. The men pulled out a 157-143 win and the women dropped a close one, 155-139.

Sausto, in his collegiate debut, finished first in both the 500 yard freestyle (5:04.57) and the 1000 free (10:15.46). His 1000 time was the best recorded in the NE-10 so far this season by nearly 17 seconds, as well as a meet record, and he also swam a leg on Bentley's 200 medley relay.

Kaduboski captured the 200 backstroke (2:11.10) and the 200 individual medley (2:15.51), setting meet record times in both, while recording the NE-10's best times of the young season in both the 200 back and 100 back (1:01.63). She was second in the 100 back and also part of the Falcons' 200 medley relay that finished second (1:55.23).

Coleman was first in the one-meter diving with a meet record 254.48 as well as second in the three-meter diving (196.13). In her first collegiate meet, Logozzo finished third in both the one-meter diving (200.18) and the three-meter (163.80).

In addition, senior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll. She achieved the NE-10's fastest 100-yard freestyle time of the season (55.18) while finishing first in both the 50 free (25.61) and 100 free, and placing second in the 200  breaststroke (1:10.85).

Bentley will open its home schedule Sunday with a 1 pm meet against Le Moyne College.
