Bentley Swimming & Diving Open Saturday at Wheaton

WALTHAM, Mass. – With rosters that include school record holders in ten individual events and the number two performance in school history in the same number, the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will open the 2016-17 season Saturday afternoon (1 pm) at Wheaton College.

The women's team features four student-athletes who earned individual medals at last season's Northeast-10 Championships. Included is two-time NE-10 200 breast champ Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS), who was also the silver medalist in the 200 individual medley and the 400 IM.  Niemiec also owns the school records in both those IM distances.

The other returning medalists are senior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS), junior Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) and sophomore Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS). McGahie was second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races, Kaduboski was second in the 200 back and third in the 400 IM, and Warren was second in the 100 butterfly.

McGahie owns two school records (50 free, 100 IM) and is second in program history in both the 100 and 200 free. Kaduboski is the Bentley standard bearer in the 50 back and is number two, behind her sister Anne (now a Falcon assistant coach), in both the 100 and 200 back. Warren ranks second in Bentley history in the 200 fly and coach Mary Kay Samko also has the second-best 500 freestyle swimmer in school history in sophomore Brooke Jameson (Bedford/Bedford HS).

On the men's side, Bentley returns four who own individual school records: seniors Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) and Dennis Witol (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt HS), junior Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) and sophomore Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies).

Karam is the record holder in both the 1000 and 1650 free, as well as second all-time in the 500 free, and Elenio owns the mark in the 200 fly. He is also second in program annals in both the 200 and 400 IM. Wilson has the record in the 200 IM and Witol has owned the standard in the 400 IM since 2015.

Bentley should also receive contributions this year from two returnees who own a number three ranking in program history: sophomore Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) (1650 free) and junior Jonny Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) (400 IM).

After opening on the road, Bentley will make its season debut in the Dana Center pool on Oct. 30 against Le Moyne College.
