12 Members of Bentley Swimming & Diving Teams Receive Weekly Recognition from NE-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – A dozen members of the Bentley University swimming and diving teams were recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference this week for their efforts last Thursday in the Falcons' final action before this weekend's conference championships, dual victories over Bridgewater State University.

Junior Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly HS) and senior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./ Danbury HS) were selected as the NE-10 Swimming Athletes of the Week  while the Diving Athletes of the Week were seniors Ryan Shanahan (Duxbury/Catholic Memorial HS) and Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS).  With the exception of Wilde, a seven-time recipient of the award this winter, each was a first-time honoree this season.

Freshman Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) was also honored, earning her first the Women's Rookie of the Week award.

Bentley also swept the Relay Team of the Week awards with the men's 400 medley and the women's 400 free recognized.

Liulakis swam to victory in both the 200 yard butterfly (2:04.68) and the 200 individual medley (2:04.68). He was also part of a Falcon 400 medley relay that was third in 3:54.86.

In the final Dana Center appearance of her career, Edwards finished first in both the 200 freestyle (2:01.85) and the 500 free (5:31.26) on Senior Night. In addition, she swam the fastest legs on two relays, helping the Falcons win the 400 medley (4:29.23) and take second in the 400 free (4:01.02).

Shanahan posted his first career winning performance on Senior Night, earning a score of 201.05 in the one-meter diving. The Falcon co-captain also was third in the three-meter with a 133.65. Wilde swept the women's diving events against Bridgewater State, registering scores of 282.25 (one-meter) and 276.10 (three-meter) in her final career home appearance and dual meet.

Niemiec continued an outstanding freshman year by winning both the 200 yard breaststroke (2:34.44) and the 200 individual medley (2:15.52). She also finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.38) and was part of Bentley's winning 400 free relay team that finished in 3:57.88.

The Bentley men won the 400 medley relay in 3:47.42 with Luke Mason (Lowell, Mass./Lowell HS) anchoring an all-senior quartet that also included Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS), Connor Mulvey-Hudson (Ardmore, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and Janco Cornelius (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield HS).

Sophomore Nicole Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) combined with a trio of freshmen,  Jessica Chen (Darien, Conn./Darien HS), Niemiec and Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) to lead the Bentley women to a victory in 400 free relay with a time of 3:57.88. 

Bentley is spending the weekend at Southern Connecticut State with the Northeast-10 Championships running from today through Sunday.
