Ouellette Named MVP of Bentley Men’s Swimming Team

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior co-captain Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conard HS), the school record holder in eight different individual events, was selected as the MVP of the 2010-11 Bentley University men's swimming and diving team, Coach Mary Kay Samko announced recently.

Freshman Peter Belanger (Andover/Andover HS) was recognized with the team's Most Improved award, and both the Coaches Award and the Scholar Athlete Award went to senior co-captain Matt Cesaro (Avon, Conn./Avon HS).

Ouellette earned gold in the 50 yard butterfly at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships and also medaled in five other events with three silvers (all in relays) and two bronzes (100 fly, 400 medley relay).  At the Northeast-10 Championships, he was third in both the 100 and 200 fly, and was ninth in the 50 free.

Ouellette owns the school record at every freestyle distance, from the 50 up to the 1650, as well as the 50 and 100 butterfly records. The 50 free (21.65), 50 fly (23.46) and 100 fly (51.18) were all set during this past season. Ouellette also has a share of the Bentley record in four relays (400 free, 800 free, 200 medley and 400 medley).

Belanger's first collegiate season was highlighted by a second place finish in the 400 individual medley at the NEISDA Championships. At the same meet, he was fifth in the 200 IM and ninth in the 200 breaststroke. During the Northeast-10 meet, he was fifth in the 400 IM, 10th in the 200 IM and 11th in the 200 breast.

Cesaro, a two-time Academic All-Northeast-10 selection (2009, 2011) who majored in corporate finance and accounting, earned a fourth place finish in the 100 individual medley at the NEISDA Championships. He was also ninth in the 50 breast, 14th in the 100 breast and part of two relays that won silver medals. His best finishes at the Northeast-10 Championships were a pair of 12ths, in the 50 free and the 100 free.

Bentley, after an 8-2 dual season, finished third in the Northeast-10 Championships and was the runner-up in the NEISDA Championships.
