Ouellette, Chan Top-Seeded at NEISDA Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Two members of the Bentley University men's swimming team, senior Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conard HS) and freshman Phillip Chan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS), have number one seeds in this weekend's New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships.

The three-day, 13-team meet is being held at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center in White River Junction, Vt. Action will begin Friday morning and run through Sunday evening, with prelims each morning and finals each evening.

Ouellette, who owns school records in six individual events, sits atop the qualifying list in the 50 yard butterfly, with a seed time of 24.43. He is also number three in the 100 fly.

Chan is the top qualifier in the 50 breaststroke, with a time of 28.77 seconds.  He's also third in the 100 breast and third in the 100 individual medley.

Sophomore George Go (Manila, Philippines) has the second-best qualifying time in the 50 backstroke (25.23) and is number two in the 100 back.

Sophomore Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) and junior Erik Stricker (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central HS) each have a number three qualifying performance, Champagne in the 500 freestyle and Stricker in the 1000 free.

Keene State, which will be seeking its third straight team championship, has the top qualifying performance in 20 of the 23 events to be contested. The diving events were held last weekend, and the Owls will enter the swimming portion of the championship with 59 points, seven more than Bentley's total.

Bentley captured the meet five straight years from 2004-08 and has been second to Keene each of the last two years.
