Men’s Soccer Falls to Holy Family 4-3 in Back-and-Forth Match

WALTHAM, Mass. – In a back-and-forth match that featured four lead changes and three ties, Holy Family emerged with a 4-3 victory over the Bentley men's soccer team in a non-conference match on Saturday.

Bentley's Chad Meyers, a graduate student captain, had a goal and two assists for the hosts.

Meyers scored the match's first goal in the 11th minute on a penalty kick, after a Holy Family player was called for a foul against Johann Fraser in the penalty area. Meyers coolly deposited the kick from 12 yards out to give Bentely the early 1-0 lead.

In the latter stages of the first half Holy Family scored twice in a six-minute span. Kerin St. Clair scored in the 36th minute and Thiago Lage scored in the 42nd minute to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Shortly after halftime, Falcons senior Lukas Drahos tied the game 2-2 in the 48th minute.

Bentley was awarded a free kick from about 35 yards out after a Tigers foul. Meyers took the kick and swung a dangerous ball into the box that Drahos rose up for and headed home for the goal.

The Tigers took the lead back in the 60th minute on a goal by Sean Touey. But Bentley again found the equalizer, this time from Fraser in the 79th minute. Meyers sent a ball into the box that Drahos corralled and fired a shot on goal that was saved keeper Luke Shank. However, the rebound fell to Fraser, who calmly scored from six yards out to tie the game 3-3.

There was one final twist however, as Lage scored his second of the day for the Tigers in the 88th minute to give them win, with a shot from a tight angle on the right wing.

The Falcons fell to 1-2 on the season. Their next game is on Wednesday at home against Assumption at 3:30 PM.
