Bentley and Molloy Play to 1-1 Draw in Season Opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley and Molloy battled to a 1-1 draw in the season opening game for both teams on Thursday afternoon.

Junior Gabriel Najim (Peabody, Mass./St. John's Prep) scored his first career goal in the 17th minute to give the Falcons an early lead. Senior Evan Levine (Boca Raton, Fla./Olympic Heights) helped set the goal up with a dangerous through ball into Molloy's penalty area. Junior Lukas Drahos (Melrose, Mass./Mystic Valley) got off a shot on goal that was turned away, but the ball found its way to Najim who scored at a tough angle from about 10 yards out.

That goal looked to be enough as Bentley lead 1-0 at halftime and throughout nearly the entire second half. However, Molloy was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the penalty area with just 14 seconds left on the clock.

Molloy's Ryan Dobson was selected to take the kick, and he converted it with a low shot to right to tie the game and end it 1-1.

Bentley's graduate student goalkeeper Eduardo Bonfim (Salvador, Brazil) made his Falcons debut in the second half and made three saves in 45 minutes of action. Junior Joe Griffin (Garden City, N.Y.) earned the start and kept a clean sheet in the first half.

The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Queens (NY).
