Men’s Soccer Defeats Saint Rose 2-1 on Senior Night

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman Johann Fraser (Cambridge, Mass./Rindge & Latin) scored two first half goals to help the Bentley men's soccer team defeat Saint Rose 2-1 on Friday night in front of a big crowd on Senior Night.

Fraser scored in the 11th and 36th minutes to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Goalkeeper Markus Foehr (Kailia, Hawaii) then made some big saves in the 2nd half to help preserve the lead. Bentley's win snapped Saint Rose's (6-5-2, 5-3-1 NE10) five match unbeaten streak.

Fraser's first goal came after center back Nico Ruiz (Zaragoza, Spain) sent a cross in from the left wing. Patrick McMahon (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake) got a touch on it at the edge of the 18 yard box. Fraser jumped on a deflection and fired in a volley that beat the Saint Rose keeper to the near post.

Fraser then made it 2-0 for the Falcons in the 36th minute. A long ball by Sean McLoughlin (Delran, N.J./Delran) from the defensive half got the play started. McMahon ran onto the pass on the left side of the 18-yard box and played a centering pass to Fraser, who headed in the cross on the far post for the goal.

Foehr made a big kick save to deny Saint Rose's Nick Koenig in the 56th minute to keep Bentley in front 2-0.

The Golden Knights did pull a goal back in the 69th minute from Victor Henriksen to make it a 2-1 game.

But in the 82nd minute, Foehr and Ruiz combined to keep the Falcons in front 2-1.

From a tough angle Foehr first denied Saint Rose's Josh Elliot with a diving save on the near post. The rebound though bounced loose to Elliot for a second chance shot, only for Ruiz to make a goal line clearance for Bentley to keep them in front.

The Falcons then closed out the remaining seven-plus minutes for the win.

Bentley will next be in action on Wednesday night when they visit Southern Connecticut.
