Bentley Drops Tough One in Overtime to Queens (NY), 2-1

WATLHAM, Mass. – Queens' Leonel Zelaya scored in the 104th minute, in the second overtime, to give the visiting Knights a 2-1 victory over Bentley University in a non-conference men's soccer match on Saturday.

The Falcons had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half on a well struck goal by junior Patrick McMahon (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake. Senior Harrison Bourgeois (Maynard, Mass./Maynard) sent a cross in towards the box that center back Hunter Marshall (Harwinton, Conn./Avon Old Farms) flicked on at the top of the penalty area towards McMahon, who took once touch and fired a shot past Queens keeper Dario Cruz for the goal.

Bentley had a couple of chances during the rest of the first half to make it 2-0, but shots by Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Jack Murray (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) were saved by Cruz.

Queens ended up tying the match late with a goal by Nicholas Tagios in the 88th minute after he found space in the box after receiving a long pass from Cruz. A low shot to the far corner by Tagios tied the score 1-1.

Just minutes before Bentley nearly put the game away when a shot by McMahon was unlucky to hit the post and stayed out.

The goal by Tagios send the sent the match to OT. Neither team scored in the first OT, but it was the Knights in the 2nd OT that found the winner. Zelaya headed in a cross by Tobias Holtz that came in from the left wing.

Bentley ended the game with a 10-7 edge in shots on goal. McMahon led the team with three shots on goal, and Gabriel Najim (Peabody, Mass./St. John's) and Johan Fraser (Cambridge, Mass./CRL) each had two.

The Falcons are next in action on Tuesday when they host Assumption that 3:00 pm in a non-conference tilt.
